The CAAPCO Group has engaged in
a number of membership and community service activities. A partial list appears below:
- The CAAPCO Group has joined with the
Dallas Chapter of the National Black MBA Association for highly successful toy drives that
benefit the children of the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation and other organizations;
- CAAPCO teamed with the Metropolitan Area Big Brothers and Big Sisters
in a project to increase the number of African-American volunteers;
- CAAPCO also launched a drive among its member organizations to
support the Freedman Foundations project which erected a memorial on the
Freedmans cemetery site that monumentalizes Freedmans town where over 7,000
slaves lived after the Civil War;
- In conjunction with the National Marrow Donor Program, CAAPCO has
initiated a drive to increase the number of African-Americans on the national bone marrow
donor registry;
- CAAPCO, in collaborations with the DISD Career Advisory Committee,
sponsored the most comprehensive ever Career Exposure Forum, which was designed to expose
hundreds of minority youth to the wide variety of occupations open to them. The Forum
brought together the largest number and variety of occupations of any career fair ever
held in the Dallas Independent School District. It was also the first time the General
Superintendent of the Dallas Public Schools has publicly endorsed such a career fair; and
- CAAPCO routinely sponsors or co-sponsors membership receptions and
other outings designed to give its members and supporters a vehicle in which they can
mingle and interact with those who hold similar ideals.
